FAQ

questions answers

1. What is the difference between simultaneous and consecutive interpretation?

Consecutive interpretation may be used during negotiations, excursions, seminars, etc., and means interpretation made consecutively after the speech of a speaker - after a brief speech (2-3 sentences) a speaker makes a pause for an interpreter to start interpreting.

Simultaneous interpretation may be used during conferences, seminars, symposiums, etc. and means interpretation made simultaneously with the speech of the speaker.

In such a case, special equipment should be used (earphones, receivers, interpreters' booth, microphones, etc.).

Simultaneous interpretation, in contrary to consecutive interpretation, allows to safe the time of a speaker. Simultaneous interpretation is very significant for events spoken in several working languages.

2. We need interpretation in several languages. Can you provide such interpretation?

Yes, we can. Ukrainian Center for Simultaneous Translation has a special equipment to provide simultaneous interpretation in several working languages.

3. How many simultaneous interpreters should work in the conference?

Usually, two interpreters work in a booth. Rarely, depending on the level and load of the event, three interpreters may be involved.

Because of very high intensity of simultaneous interpretation, interpreters change each other in every 15-20 minutes.

4. We need simultaneous interpreters for a conference. It is for the first time for me. What should I know to arrange the conference?

The following information should be provided:

- working languages of the conferences;

- date, working time, location;

- topic;

- estimated quantity of participants;

- equipment required for the conference, scenario;

- Is there a need in the conference service?

5. How can I help an interpreter to ensure efficient work at the conference?

If it's possible, please try to speak short sentences or phrases. In case of consecutive interpretation, please be sure a pause is sufficient for interpretation. Please avoid witty remarks, puns, metaphors, which may make interpretation difficult.

If you need an interpreter during a lunch, please be sure your interpreter has a short break for rest.

6. How can a customer help an interpreter?

A customer should provide an interpreter with the conference materials beforehand. Such materials may be materials of the previous event, speakers' papers, theses, etc.

In addition, the customer should provide the conference program.

7. What about confidentiality of the conference information?

This issue is one of the terms of our model agreement, and we strictly follow it.
